M-m-m-my Samantha!

Okay, so what have I got here for you right now? First, let me present you with something silly I wrote. It's an. . .adaptation of Yumi-tachi no Bouken (The Adventures of Yumi and her Friends) from the Junior High first year textbook "New Horizon" volume 1 (this version of the textbook was discontinued asof April 2002, sorry).

The Adventures of Yumi and her Amazing Friends

Next, here are some Microsoft Excel files. There are two of them - bingo.xls and bingo2.xls. They are currently in Excel 97/2000 format. If you need a different format, let me know. These files each contain a macro that will create a random bingo board based on data that you input. There are any number of uses for these, primarily for listening comprehension, but if you are creative you might be able to use them for other types of activities. Anyway, the bingo boards for which they are currently formatted are for telling time (listening comprehension of time in English - students have a very hard time telling the difference between thirteen and thirty, fourteen and forty, and fifteen and fifty).

Anyway, if you would like to download either of these files, in Internet Explorer or Netscape for Windows click the right mouse button over the link and choose to save the target file. You can then do whatever you like with the file. On a Mac using either of the above two programs, hold the mouse button over the link for the menu to come up, and proceed about saving the file the same way. If you are on a different machine or using a different operating system, I'm going to assume that you know how to download a file.

So, what's the difference between the two files? Both files have a 5x5 bingo board with a free space in the center. But bingo.xls can only use exactly 24 data values. This is good if you want to limit the number of choices, have less data, or want the students to get bingo more quickly. However, if you want more variety, bingo2.xls will let you use 50 different data values to create the bingo board. This means that every board will not have exactly the same values, and can lead to longer games with more choices - more like regular bingo. It's easy to use the macro, and the files are annotated. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at jcaliff@ev1.net.
